YEAR IN ISRAEL
The creation of the State of Israel is one of the seminal events in Jewish history. Recognizing the significance of the State of Israel and its national institutions, culture, and people, Yavneh seeks to instill in its students an attachment to Israel and its people, as well as a personal sense of responsibility for their welfare. Yavneh encourages its students to consider seriously spending a year studying in Israel after graduation.
Although a year in Israel is not the right choice for every student, all Yavneh students are expected to at least consider whether a year in Israel would be beneficial and appropriate. Advisement about education in Israel is conducted under the auspices of the Judaics program. Additionally, each Fall, representatives of many post high school institutions in Israel visit Yavneh to speak to interested students about their programs.
Most of the institutions that Yavneh recommends are yeshivot with full-time Torah learning. However, Yavneh also believes that spending a year in Israel is a unique educational experience for any student, regardless of the student’s level of observance, and supports its students in pursuing not only traditional Torah study in Israel, but also secular educational opportunities.
Yavneh students have attended a variety of programs in Israel in recent years, including the following:
