CLASS OF 2007 EMBARKS ON NEW JOURNEY

On May 20, 2007, Yavneh Academy bade farewell to the Class of 2007 in its annual commencement ceremony. Members of the Class of 2007 will attend colleges and universities including Emory University, Washington University of St. Louis, The Ohio State University, The University of Texas at Austin, Kansas University, The University of Maryland, Yeshiva University, The University of Arizona, and Texas A & M University.

YAVNEH STUDENTS COMPLETE THE MARCH

A group of Yavneh seniors participated in the 2007 March of the Living. The delegation traveled to Poland to learn about and commemorate the Shoah, and then on to Israel for a celebration of Israel's indepedence day. Led by Yavneh Board President Pam Hochster-Fine, the trip presented the students with the opportunity to learn firsthand about these historical events.

YAVNEH DEBATE ROCKS ON

The Yavneh debate team continued its success during the 2006-2007 season. On the opening weekend of the season, Yavneh won its own invitational tournament, with Shayna Weinberg-Gordon and Sarah Epstein taking top honors. David Fine and Grace Rosenthal reached the seminfinals of that event, and quarterfinals appearances were made by the teams of Michael San Soucie and Micah Steinbrecher, and Daley Epstein and Adina Weinberg. Later in the semester, Fine and Rosenthal again went undefeated at the MTA/Yeshiva University Tournament in New York, with Weinberg-Gordon and Epstein winning two of their three debates. It marked the fourth year in a row that Yavneh had a team finish undefeated at MTA/YU.

YAVNEH GROUP HOSTS TOLERANCE EVENT

Uniting Students of Dallas (Rachael Abrams, Elana Lavi, Laura Rudberg, Zoe Klein, Dana Rosenberg, Aaron Liener, Robert Radoff, David Naxon, and Natalie Schachar) hosted its first annual Mix It Up At Lunch event at Yavneh. Groups from Highland Park High School, W.W. Samuell High School, and Garland High School attended the event, which featured presentations by Julius Whittier (the first African-American football player in University of Texas history), Betty Fisher (one of the Brown v. Board of Education plaintiffs), and Jack Repp (a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp). The event was a rousing success, and the Dallas Morning News ran a lengthy story about it.

LADY BULLDOGS FINISH SEASON SUCESSFULLY

The Yavneh Lady Bulldogs completed the most successful season in school history, finishing with their second consecutive 20-win season. Among the season highlights were an opening weekend championship in the Yavneh Tipoff Tourney, and a late season championship game appearance in the Miami Hebrew Academy Tournament, where Jacqueline Zalstein was named to the All-Tournament Team.

BULLDOGS GARNER HONORS

Two Yavneh players received honors recently from Jewish Hoops America. Senior Samuel Pulitzer was named First Team Acadamic All American, and Junior Erez Krengel was named Third Team All American, by the group, located in New York.

YAVNEH ALUM NAMED TO WALL OF FAME

Yavneh graduate Itzy Ribald was one of five inaugural members inducted into the Yeshiva University Sarachek Wall of Fame in 2006. The five inductees were chosen from the more than 500 players and coaches who have participated in the tournament over the past 15 years. Ribald was a two-time member of the All-Tournament Team, a two-time winner of the three-point shootout, and averaged 23.8 points per game over three tournament appearances.
