STUDENTS AGAINST TERRORISM

In March 2002, six Yavneh Academy students attended the Yeshiva University Emaitai Leadership Conference in Connecticut focusing on active leadership and various ways to improve the situation in Israel.

After the conference, the students returned to Dallas and formed Students Against Terrorism. This student-run organization’s goal is to demonstrate solidarity with, and support victims of terrorism in, the State of Israel. Committed to raising awareness in the community about the devastating effects of terrorism on Israeli civilians, Students Against Terrorism’s flagship program is its annual Points for Peace 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The tournament has become one of the most visible events in the Dallas Jewish community since it began in 2003.

Since 2002, SAT has, through learn-a-thons, "Points for Peace," "StandStrong4Israel" bracelets, and other programs, raised over $500,000. Monies have supported an Israeli family whose son was injured in a bombing, and they have paid for half of an ambulance for the Magen David Adom.  Donations have been sent to support Camp Koby, which provides a camp program to children of families struck by terrorism, the Keren Malka Foundation which provides long-term no-cost loans of specialized and expensive home equipment; walkers, standers, special wheelchairs, bath inserts, bed lifts and more, as well as to ATZUM, which supports families whose lives have been shattered.
